Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to present the fundamental data for the improvement of incremental oral health program using school dental clinic (PSDC).

Methods: Subjects were 4,743 parents form 8 elementary school in Ulsan metropolitan city that have been operating PSDC from 1999 to 2005. According to their schools¡¯ operation period of school dental clinics, subjects were classified as the longer operation period group (LOG) that experienced PSDC from 2005 or 2004, and the shorter operation period group (SOG) that experienced PSDC from 2000 or 1999. The questionnaires composed of recognition and supports of PSDC, from June 24 to July 13, 2007. Frequency analysis, chi-square test and odds ratio and logistic regression analysis was done through SPSS program.

Results: For the parents, the recognition level for fluoride effect (p=0.009) and sealant effect (p<0.001) for caries prevention, the response level for ¡¯strongly recommendation of PSDC to other schools¡¯ (p=0.001) were higher in SOG, however, the response level for ¡¯improvement of children¡¯s oral health status¡¯ (p=0.002) was higher in LOG. Odd ratios (95% confidence interval) of the parents¡¯ recommendations of PSDC to other schools were higher in case of better recognitions and in LOG: 2.33(1.95-2.79) in the recognition for fluoride effect, 4.19(3.38-5.20) in the recognition for sealant effect and in the recognition for the PSDC in their children¡¯s school, 2.28 (1.89-2.74) among LOG compared to 1.29(1.10-1.50) in SOG.

Conclusion: Our results of this study show that the period of PSDC is positively associated with the perception of parents on their children¡¯s oral health status. For the active participation of parents in PSDC, more efforts will be required to enhance the cognition and support for PSDC.
